Community Campus

Good Shepherd Baptist Church was formed in the early 1960’s and has been active in the Lynnwood community since that time. The church building is located on 196th near Edmonds Community College on a 4.5 acre site. During the past forty-plus years, the property has served as a winter pasture for burros from our summer camp high in the Cascades, as a playfield for our children (and adults), and as a community garden for residents of the community.

During the past few years, the congregation has been going through an envisioning process to explore long-term ways to best use the property for community service. We are completing a plan to create a multiple-use “campus” on the property that will include the all the areas listed on this page.

We make our building open to community groups for meetings or events.  Please contact the church office for more information about how your local group can use our centrally-located building for your meetings.

Improved Community Garden Area

The plans are to expand and improve the landscaping for the 30-plus community garden plots that currently exist on the northwest quadrant of the property. We will create walkways and sitting areas amidst the gardens for use by the gardeners and visitors and incorporate areas containing art. This project will also necessitate improving the water supply to the garden area.

Community Arboretum and Small Event Venue

In conjunction with Edmonds Community College Horticulture Department, plans call for creating an “arboretum” area on the northeast quadrant of the property that is currently open space. It will be available for the community to visit and enjoy, plus it may become a resource for elementary school classes studying plant life. In addition to its designed landscaped areas, the site will have an area that can be used for weddings, outdoor church services, and other small community events.  Click on the image at right to see how the Arboretum is envisioned to fit on our property (will open an Adobe Acrobat document in a new window).

Intergenerational Child Care

Current plans call for utilizing existing and possible future space as a facility for childcare services involving residents of the senior housing facility who could assist professional staff.

Modification of Existing Church Building

The existing church building has not been significantly upgraded since it was constructed in the 1960s. Our plan is to expand the existing fellowship hall to nearly double its current size, add improved rest room facilities, modify the layout of the sanctuary, improve the parking and landscaped areas, increase handicapped accessibility, and bring the building up to current code.

Cold Weather Shelter Network--2008-2009 Season Ended

Good Shepherd is participated in helping the least of these during our extreme weather:

The South Snohomish Emergency Cold Weather Shelter Network was open from early November 2008 through March 2009. People who sought overnight shelter in the Edmonds and Lynnwood areas gathered at Fire Station 15 in Lynnwood (18800 44th Ave W, Lynnwood) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and at the Lynnwood Library (19200 44th Avenue West, Lynnwood) on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 7:00pm for transportation to the shelter sites hosted by local churches. The shelter network was open to families, women, and men and can accommodate 50 people with preference given to young, elderly, and the ill. Evening and morning meals will be provided, and guests will be transported back at 7:00 am the next morning. Pets wereaccommodated to the best of our ability.

Thank you to all the volunteers who assisted!
